Y1 Friday 6th June 2025– Looking Back & Forth
Looking back:
I hope you all had a fantastic half term break.
Wow!! The children have made us feel so proud this week with their excellent effort and enthusiasm for Phonics!
In English, we have written our portal story inspired by ‘Where the Wild Things are’.
In Maths, we have begun to look at fractions. We have recognised and found half of an object and shape and found half of quantities.
In Science and Geography, we have written a fact file about summer including when it is, the weather, the day light hours and how to protect ourselves from the sun.
In Science, we have thought about what we know and want to find out in our sea shore animal’s topic and ways we can help to keep sea animals safe.
In PHSE, we have used the book ‘My world, your world’- exploring the understanding that we share the world with different people and respecting the differences we have and noticing any similarities.
Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:
√ Writing our portal story.
√ Learning about Judaism and belonging in RE.
√ Recognising and finding half of shapes and objects.
√ Finding half of quantities.
√ Reading split digraph reading comprehensions and reading text that includes tricky consonant blends.

√ Relay races in PE.
√ Using the book ‘My world, your world’ to help us to reflect on the differences and similarities we share with people around the world.
√ Moving to show change of pitch in Music.
