Y3 w.e 22.3.19 Looking Back & Forth

Friday 22nd March 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 3

Looking back:

Year 3 were an outstanding representation for Goostrey this week when we visited Chester to consolidate our Roman learning! They really were superb … with our very own Roman legionary telling us that we were the most enthusiastic and receptive group he can remember! Year 3 congratulations, you have deservedly earnt those two large handfuls of marbles! J  Over the last week, in maths we have learnt how to use the grid method for multiplication – it is yet another new method that Year 3s have thrown themselves into, keep checking for accurate use of ‘basic’ multiplication then accurate adding too.  In English we have begun our new writing genre of Adventure Stories, much to the delight of our avid fiction writers.

Year 3 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • I liked the trip to Chester this week:
    - I got a new name! It is Saphire!
    - I was asked to chant, “Sin, sin, sin, dext, sin!”
    - I liked it when we met our Roman, Titus, who taught us the Roman formations
    - I enjoyed the ‘wedge formation’ I was the tip so had to break through the Celtic line (of teachers)
    - I liked looking at the Roman artefacts with my friends
  •  I liked learning about the baths, I liked working with my partner.
  • I enjoyed the spellings because I got them all right, I had learnt them well.
  • I liked creating my acrostic poem about the trip.
  • I really enjoyed the grid method this week- maths was great!

Family discussion questions:

  • If Joel buys 14 packets of balloons and there are 25 balloons in each, how many will he have in total?
  • What was the Latin for ‘Left, left, left, right, left’?
  • True or false? Romans would be rubbed with oil by a slave when they went to a dinner party.
  • Explain how the Romans ate when at a dinner party.
  • What are 3 of the strangest foods that Romans ate?

Looking forward:
We will be learning more about fractions this week.  In English will continue our story writing, adventure story writing!  Thinking about topic, we will be having some creative and arty times this week.
