Y3 w.e 29.3.19 Looking Back & Forth

Friday 29th March 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 3

Looking back:

Year 3 have worked hard this week to find fractions of amounts (both as unit fractions as well as several parts of the fraction).  They have then gone on to use their skills to complete challenging word problems! Well done!  In English we have been writing adventure stories based on an island adventure.  Mosaic planning, in homage to the Romans has been exciting and we have begun to create the mosaics too with small pieces of coloured paper. They are beginning to looking very effective and Year 3 have taken the advice for this particular piece of art work that, ‘simple is better’.

Year 3 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • I enjoyed writing my adventure story because they are really interesting and fun to create.
  • I loved PE, tag rugby, because my team of 7 were a really good team, we worked together lots, and so did the other team.  We were just really good at it.  I was energetic and managed to tag an opponent.
  • The mosaic work this week was really fun, we could choose our own Roman design.
  • Everything!
  • I enjoyed maths because I have improved with my fraction finding this week – it makes me feel proud. I am getting quite good.
  • I liked the timestables this week, I did all 4 columns this week, I have never managed it before! J

Family discussion questions:

  • How can we find 1/8 of an amount?
  • If 3/5 of the 40 children are wearing a jumper, how many children are not?
  • When we use speech in our writing what must we always include?

Looking forward:
We will be learning more about fractions this week.  In English will continue our story writing, adventure story writing!  Thinking about topic, we will be having some creative and arty times this week.
