Y3. w.e 10.5.19 Looking Back & Forth

Friday 10th May 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 3

Looking back:

In English we have begun writing about imaginary worlds, great use of appropriate adjectives and similes too.  Year 3 have been learning about 3D shape properties in maths, this has of course helped us to create accurate and useful 3D nets for pizza boxes. We have of course had a splendid Roman Day this Friday, with fabulous costumes, exploding volcanoes, creative box decorating, pizza making and research too.  What a busy Roman inspired day!

Year 3 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • I enjoyed Sunshine Singing! We got to sing to our grandparents or people from the village.
  • Swimming was fun, I liked it because every week we get better, lots of people made progress this week.
  • Thinking about and planning for Roman Day was good, I thought a lot about my pizza.
  • Roman Day: making our volcano explode, actually it flooded and fizzed with the mix of materials, I enjoyed the catwalk as everyone showed off their costumes and it was fun to see everyone’s too, making pizza was amazing, I had sooo many toppings, I liked using the oil pastels on my pizza box, then painting it!

Family discussion questions:

  • What are the names of the 3D shapes that have 6 faces, 8 vertices and 12 edges?
  • How many points does a sphere have?  What about a triangular prism?
  • What simile can you think of that could describe the sky/clouds in your imaginary world picture?
  • What simple ingredients can you use to make a volcano ‘explode’?

Looking forward:
Next week we will be writing about imaginary worlds!  Maths lesson will see us learning about angles and directional lines and the afternoons will see us learning about the Jewish Commandments in RE.
