Y4 Looking Back and Forth - Friday 13th March

🔙 Looking Back – This Week in Year 4

Our trip to Delamere was fantastic! Hopefully, your child returned home tired, perhaps a little muddy, and full of stories from their adventures. Although the weather was a little unsettled on the first day, we still managed to enjoy plenty of fun learning activities around the centre grounds, including orienteering and pond dipping.

After a hearty breakfast on the second day, we headed out into the forest for more exploring. The children took part in stream dipping and discovered all sorts of fascinating creatures, including small fish called Milliner’s Thumbs and even a few eels!

Following our forest exploration, we returned to the centre for hot chocolate and lunch. The children then created woodland creature sculptures and enjoyed spending time together, playing and listening to music.

The children were a real credit to the school. Staff at the centre once again commented on their politeness, excellent manners, great listening skills and the respect they showed throughout the trip. Stella, the centre leader, said:

"I knew it would be a great end of the week, because I had Goostrey School coming — they’re always great."

We were incredibly proud of the whole class.

A huge thank you to Miss Flint, Mrs McCabe and Mrs Pacitto, who supported the children throughout the experience.

💬 Ask at Home

You might like to ask your child:

• What was the best thing about Delamere?
• What was your favourite meal?
• What was the campfire called?
• What was your favourite campfire song?
• What did you catch in the pond?
• What did you catch in the stream?
• Why was there foam in the stream water?
• Was there evidence that the stream was healthy? (Think about the critters we found — such as mayfly larvae.)

🔜 Looking Ahead – Next Week in Year 4

Next week we will be:

• Creating a double-page spread about our Delamere adventures
• Exploring stop-frame animation
