Y5 22.11.19 Looking Back and Forth

Friday 22nd November 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5

Looking back:

This week the children have completed their literacy topic based on Gary Crew’s book, ‘The Watertower’. The children have been really enthusiastic with their writing and produced some great work.

In maths, the children have been exploring strategies for division, before using this knowledge to calculate a fraction of a number.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We are enjoying PE with Mrs Saxton.
  • We enjoyed the story writing this week and exploring the writing technique, show not tell.

Family discussion questions:

  • Ask your child what French words and phrases they have learnt this half-term.
  • Ask your children to tell you how they would calculate a fraction of a number.
  • Ask your children about their ‘watertower’ story.

Looking forward:

Next week we will start a new writing topic exploring persuasive writing. We will be learning how to write a firm, but polite, letter of complaint.

In our topic work, the children will be working in pairs to write a diary entry for an ancient Greek child, applying as much topic vocabulary as possible.

Don’t forget, we have a short Wider Opps ‘progress performance’ on Wednesday 4th December at 1.30pm.

Wider Opportunities:

Children are learning to play…

‘Mini March’

‘Tell Me a Story’

‘Hot Mince Pies’

Children to practise their three notes.
