Y5 6.9.19 Looking Back and Forth

Friday 6th September 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5

Looking back:

It’s been a brilliant first week back. The children have been incredibly enthusiastic and hardworking – it’s going to be a great year!

This week the children have started working on a new literacy topic based on the classic story, ‘The Iron Man’. They have also undertaken some geography work in preparation for our trip to Burwardsley in a couple of weeks.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We really enjoyed being back at school with our friends.
  • It was great starting Wider Opps on the first day.
  • We enjoyed PE.

Family discussion questions:

Ask your children…

  • To tell you what they enjoyed about the opening of ‘The Iron Man’.
  • To tell you what the different colour roads mean on a road map.

Looking forward:

Next week will be continuing our geography work, exploring Ordnance Survey maps and looking at grid references. The children will be writing recounts based on ‘The Iron Man’. In maths, we will be looking at place value, before moving on to addition and subtraction strategies.

On Monday afternoon, the local PSCO will be with classes to talk about e-safety.

Wider Opportunities:

Children will be bringing consent forms home today (Friday). When they are returned, the children will be able to take their instruments home. Exciting!
