Y5 Weekly Update 6.1.23

Friday 6th January 2023 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

It was lovely to welcome the children back after a two-and-a-half week break. They were straight back into the swing of things as we started a new writing topic based on The Hound of the Baskervilles. In maths, we did a number of lessons calculating perimeter. We are just finishing off our ‘Forces’ science topic and we learned all about levers, gears and pulleys.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We are enjoying the graphic novel version of The Hound of the Baskervilles.
  • It was interesting learning about how bike gears work.

Family discussion questions:

  • Can the children tell you about Arthur Conan Doyle and Sherlock Holmes?
  • Ask the children how we calculate the perimeter of a rectangle.

Looking forward:

Next week, we will be tying up a few loose ends with our Ancient Greece topic, before moving on the explore WWII.

In maths, we will move on to calculating the area of rectangles and compound shapes.

We will continue reading The Hound of the Baskervilles, building up our writing skills so that we are able to write our own cliffhanger narrative.

Have a lovely weekend!
