Y5 Weekly Update 10.11.23

Friday 10th November 2023 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

The Year 5s have worked really hard this week. We have completed our ‘statistics’ maths unit – the children showed a great attitude interpreting different ways of displaying data. We have continued reading ‘FArTHER’ and the children have started to plan their own story which they are looking forward to writing. In science, we have planned an investigation looking at measuring the force of friction on a shoe. We did a lovely PSHE lesson based on the ‘The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse’ and today the children have produced some wonderful poppy poems for Remembrance.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We liked our poppy poems and spending time reflecting on Remembrance.
  • We enjoyed getting the gymnastic equipment out in PE.
  • We really liked the story behind ‘The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse’.

Family discussion questions:

  • Ask the children what they learned about friction.
  • Ask the children why the artist painted a blue horse.

Looking forward:

Next week, we will be concluding our science investigation measuring friction when a shoe moves on different surfaces. In English, the children will be writing their stories based on the book, FArTHER. In our maths lessons, we will move on to explore strategies for multiplication and division. We also have an interesting RE lesson looking at why the Lord’s Prayer is important to Christians.

Parents' Evening appointments go live on Monday, 4pm.

Have a great weekend!
