Y5 Weekly Update 10.2.23

Friday 10th February 2023 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

Year 5 have had a brilliant week, working really hard and showing a great attitude in class. On Monday, we did an interesting lesson on how propaganda was used during WWII. In English, the children have written a clear and concise report, imagining they were Dr. Watson writing to Sherlock Holmes from Baskerville Hall. In science, we looked in  more depth at solubility.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We are really enjoying playing basketball in PE.
  • We have been enjoying learning about fractions in maths, and the challenge work.
  • We have been making good progress in our arithmetic lessons each Tuesday.

Family discussion questions:

  • Can the children show you how to convert between mixed-numbers and improper fractions?
  • Can the children tell you how propaganda was used during WWII?

Looking forward:

Next week, we will be continuing with our maths work on fractions. This is a large unit of work, but the children have been doing really well!

In science, we will be exploring separating mixtures with a little investigation.

In PSHE, we will be doing a little piece of writing based on the powerful and poignant book, ‘Rose Blanche’. We have been studying this book in our guided reading sessions.

In history, we will look at the impact of rationing during WWII.

Have a lovely weekend!
