Y5 Weekly Update 10.7.26
Friday 10rd July 2026 – Y5 Weekly Update
Looking back:
It’s been a great week in Year 5. Children have been planning a story based on King Kong – they really enjoy getting their teeth into writing an exciting narrative. In maths, we’ve been studying units of measurement. We’ve undertaken some really interesting local history lessons – we learned about local Grade I and Grade II listed buildings, and then went on to research wartime in Goostrey.
It was sad to say goodbye to the South African children on Wednesday – we’ve loved having them in school!
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We loved spending time with the South African children!
- It was really interesting learning about Goostrey’s buildings and how lots of houses on Main Road used to be shops.
Family discussion questions:
- Ask the children to tell you what they remember about Grade I and Grade II buildings
- Can the children tell how to convert between different measurements?
Looking forward:
Unbelievably, we have reached the end of another school year next week! On a personal note, I have really enjoyed teaching the class – they are sparky, funny, hard working and very enthusiastic. Its been a pleasure to watch them blossom and grow. In the last week, we'll be tying up a few loose ends in our topic work and completing our English and Maths units. On Tuesday morning, we'll be watching the Year 6 end of year performance, which we're really looking forward to.
Have a lovely weekend!
