Y5 Weekly Update 1.12.23

Friday 1st December 2023 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

It’s been a great week in Year 5. In English, the children have been looking at some of the language and structural features of letter writing – we’ve explored formal and informal language, modal verbs and personal tone. In maths, the children have been doing brilliantly at multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 & 1000. We’ve been doing some really interesting history lessons on the ancient Greeks. This week we looked at ancient Greek architecture and warfare in ancient Greece. In science, we did a great investigation on air resistance using paper spinners.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We are enjoying gymnastics in PE.
  • We really enjoyed learning about air resistance.

Family discussion questions:

  • Can the children tell you the golden rules for multiplying and dividing by 10, 100, 1000?
  • Can the children tell you the difference between formal and informal language?

Looking forward:

Next week, the children will be learning about the origins of the Olympics, and researching what modern-day Greece is like. In English, the children will be planning and writing a letter. In science, we will be conducting an investigation exploring levers. In maths, we continue to look at division and multiplication strategies.

Don't forget raffle tickets for the class hamper are now on sale.

It’s Christmas Jumper Day on Wednesday too!

Have a great weekend!
