Y5 Weekly Update 11.7.25

Friday 11th July 2025 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

The children have worked really hard this week. They have produced a fantastic story with a dilemma, based on Anthony Browne’s King Kong book we have been reading. The children have done really well with translation and reflection in maths. In History, we completed a really interesting topic on local history and learned lots about Goostrey in the past. We have begun a D&T topic – planning, designing and making a moving toy using a simple cam mechanism. The children will be making these during the Bikeability days next week.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We enjoyed doing translation and reflection in maths.
  • We have liked learning about pilgrimages in RE.
  • We enjoyed planning our stalls for June evening.

Family discussion questions:

  • Can the children tell you what happened during the world wars in Goostrey?
  • Can the children tell you the golden rule for translating a shape on a grid?

Looking forward:

Unbelievably, we find ourselves in the last week of the school year!

In the last week, we will undertake the usual scramble of end of year finishing off. The children will be watching the amazing Year 6 production on Wednesday, and they will meet their new teacher for a lesson too. On Friday, the children are welcome to bring in a traditional game (no electronics).

Bikeability is on Monday/Tuesday. Children will need to wear their usual Goostrey t-shirt/jumper/cardigan. They will be asked to wheel their bikes across the playground when they arrive and take them to the astro-turf area. It's looking like another hot day on Monday, so please can the children come with suncream applied, a sun hat and waterbottle. .

I hope you have a great weekend!
