Y5 Weekly Update 11.9.26
Friday 11th September 2026 – Y5 Weekly Update
Looking back:
It has been a great week in Year 5! We’ve really cracked on with our WWII topic, exploring why the war began, looking at key figures at the beginning of the war and researching which countries were occupied during the war. In English, we started a unit of work based on the thought provoking book FArTHER. In maths, we continue to look at place value, and in science we have started our topic on forces. We've been busy!
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We enjoyed playing lacrosse in PE.
- We are excited to get our instruments in Wider Opps.
- We enjoyed exploring the book, FArTHER in our English lessons.
Family discussion questions:
- Ask the children if they can remember the key events in the build up to WWII.
- Ask the children what they know about the origins of Hinduism.
Looking forward:
The children have got an exciting Forest Schools session on Monday morning - please see email for details!
Next week, we will be continuing our History topic on WWII, learning about the Blitz and evacuation.
In maths, we will be ordering and rounding numbers to one million.
In science, we will be setting up an interesting investigation exploring friction. In RE we will be learning about Dharma in Hinduism.
Have a lovely weekend!
