Friday 12^th December 2025 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back: 

It’s been a great week in Year 5. In between Christmas Service rehearsals, the children have done some great work. In English, we completed a short writing topic, learning how to write formal reports. In maths, the children have done brilliantly with multiplication – we now move on to some division strategies. In RE, the children have been looking at some parables in the Christian faith, In science we looked at why we have day and night and the seasons.     

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

• We loved the Christmassy activities – Christmas shop, Santa’s visit, Christmas lunch.
• We have enjoyed the bridges topic with Mrs Riddell.

Family discussion questions:

• Can the children tell you why we have day and night?
• Can the children show you how to do short division?

Looking forward:

Next week is a busy (and festive!) one. The children have the Christmas Service on Tuesday and Thursday - they are also invited back to sing after school on Thursday. The rest of the week will be spent tying up loose ends of work and possibly some festive activities too!  On Friday, we will do the Elf Run and the children are welcome to bring in a board game (no electronics).
