Y5 Weekly Update 12.9.25

Friday 12th September 2025 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

It’s been a great week in Year 5. We have started our History topic based on Ancient Greece – looking at when and how the Ancient Greek civilisation developed. In RE, we did a little recap of the Hindu religion. In science we looked at friction and set up an experiment testing the effects of friction on different shoes. Our maths work looked at place value and numbers up to 1,000,000.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We enjoyed presenting work about Hinduism.
  • We loved our first PE session.
  • We liked starting The Railway Children in guided reading sessions.

Family discussion questions:

  • Can the children tell you a Hinduism fact?
  • When was the main period of Ancient Greece?

Looking forward:

Next week, we will continue our Ancient Greece topic, looking at the city states of Sparta and Athens.

In English, we continue to be inspired by the book, FArTHER, with the children building up to writing their own fantastic story.

In science, we will be carrying out our shoe investigation to study the effects of friction.

In RE, we will learning about Dharma.

I hope you have a great weekend!
