Y5 Weekly Update 14.11.25

Friday 14th November 2025 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

The children have had a great week in class. On Tuesday, we attended the Remembrance Service at St Luke’s Church, which was poignant and reflective, and the children behaved brilliantly, understanding the importance of this event. We also produced some lovely, thoughtful Remembrance poetry.

In class, we have moved on to a long topic on fractions. We began by looking at strategies to calculate equivalent fractions. The children have completed some lovely work in Geography, creating a collage of the journey of a river. In science, we learned about the phases of the Moon.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We really enjoyed maaking the river collage.
  • We are enjoying the book, Where Once We Stood in our English lessons.

Family discussion questions:

  • Can the children tell you golden rule for calculating equivalent fractions?
  • Ask the children what they learned about the reason people wear poppies.

Looking forward:

Next week, the children will be calculating mixed numbers and improper fractions in maths. In science, we will be doing a little bit of planets research and presenting the information we find. In Geography, we will be learning about estuaries and the children will be creating a little estuary information booklet. Our RE work looks at some of the meaning behind The Lord's Prayer in Christianity.

I hope you have a great weekend!
