Y5 Weekly Update 15.3.24

Friday 15th March 2024 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

It’s been a hardworking week in Year 5. In maths, the children have been working on some percentages work. This is a new concept, introduced in Year 5, but the children have done brilliantly. In Geography, we have been preparing for our residential by studying the Burwardsley area on Ordnance Surveys maps.  In RE, we listened to a variety of music used in Christian worship. Yesterday, the children took part in a carousel of science activities for Science Week and said they really enjoyed it!

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We are enjoying our class book, Billy the Kid, by Michael Morpurgo.
  • We liked looking at Burwardsley on the Ordnance Survey maps.
  • We enjoyed listening to different types of music used in Christian worship.

Family discussion questions:

  • Can the children tell you about the burning triangle and the elements needed for fire?
  • Can the children explain how a 6-point grid-reference works?

Looking forward:

Next week, we will continue our Burwardsley Geography topic by researching the Sandstone Trail. We will also explore how compasses work, and look at compass points.

In maths, we will be converting between percentages, fractions and decimals and look at equivalence between fractions, decimals and percentages.

In our English work, the children will be planning and then writing their own story based on The Promise.

Have a good weekend!
