Y5 Weekly Update 16.1.25

Friday 16th January 2026 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

It’s been a great week of learning in Year 5. The children have really enjoyed the graphic novel version of Arthur Conan Doyle’s ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’ in our English lessons. In maths, we’ve been doing a thorough job of practising calculating a fraction of a number. In History, we learned about some of the reasons why WWII began and also created a map of occupied Europe.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We are enjoying our Guided Reading book, Billy the Kid.
  • It was interesting learning about the background to WWII.

Family discussion questions:

  • Ask the children what they learned about why WWII began.
  • Ask the children to show you the two-step method to calculate a fraction of a number.

Looking forward:

Next week, we will move on to a new maths topic, exploring decimals and percentages.

In History, we will learn about evacuation and the Blitz. IN RE, we will compare sacred texts across a number of religions. In science, we will carry out an experiment investigating thermal insulation.

Have a great weekend!
