Y5 Weekly Update 16.5.25

Friday 16th May 2025 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

It’s been a great week in Year 5. The children have written brilliant stories based in a jungle survival setting. In maths, we have been working hard on decimals. In geography, we have been learning all about South America – this week we have researched biomes and the Amazon Rainforest. In RE, we began an interesting topic about pilgrimages and on Tuesday we looked at pilgrimages Muslims might go on during their lives.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We are enjoying learning the pieces of music for the Bridgewater Hall concert in Wider Opps.
  • We really liked writing our stories in English.

Family discussion questions:

  • Can the children remember any interesting facts about the Amazon Rainforest?
  • Can the children show you how to multiply and divide decimals by 10,100 or 1000.

Looking forward:

Next week in English, we will move on to a short writing topic where we will be writing a survival guide.

In maths, we have a couple more lessons on decimals, before moving on to some work on shape and angles.

In our geography work, we will be presenting our research about the Amazon Rainforest and having a look at why wildlife is becoming endangered in South America.

Don’t forget it is Sports Day on Tuesday!

Have a great weekend!
