Y5 Weekly Update 20.1.23

Friday 20th January 2023 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

It’s been a really hardworking week in Year 5. The children have produced some wonderful writing based on ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’ – they have undertaken a setting description and applied some characterisation to their work.

In maths, we spent a week looking at multiplication strategies which has gone really well! In science, we started our topic with a recap of the properties of materials. Our history work looked at how and why WWII began.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We enjoyed the e-safety work on Monday.
  • It was interesting learning about the events which led to the beginning of WWII.
  • We really enjoyed our basketball lesson.

Family discussion questions:

  • Can the children tell you why WWII began?
  • Ask the children what they learned about healthy media choices and balance.

Looking forward:

Next week, the children will be writing their own cliffhanger story based on ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’.

In Maths, we move from multiplication to division strategies.

We will be doing some interesting PSHE work on Monday, using the book ‘The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse’.

In History, will be mapping occupied Europe.

Have a lovely weekend!
