Y5 Weekly Update 23.1.26

Friday 23rd January 2026 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

It’s been a great week in Year 5. We have undertaken a couple of really interesting lessons in History, exploring evacuation and the Blitz. In English, we have looked at some grammar skills, such as the use of semi-colons and adverbial phrases, then applied them to our writing. In maths, we have begun a new topic learning about decimals. In RE, we learned about different sacred texts using notetaking skills.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We are enjoying gymnastics in PE.
  • Wider Opps is going really well and we are enjoying learning pieces of music together.

Family discussion questions:

  • Ask the children what they learned about evacuation.
  • Ask the children how The Hound of the Baskervilles ended.

Looking forward:

Next week, we will look at rationing and propaganda in our History lessons. We will be using all the writing skills we have been studying to write our own story based on The Hound of the Baskervilles.

In RE, we will be learning about what people believe about angels in different religions.

Don't forget there is a short meeting about Burwardsley after school on Monday (26th).

Have a great weekend!
