Y5 Weekly Update 24.4.26

Friday 24th April 2026 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

The children were amazing in Burwardsley. They were polite and impeccably behaved and they made it a pleasure to take them - I hope they enjoyed it too. On Monday, we completed our Burwardsley geography topic. In maths, we have continued to work on shape – measuring and drawing angles with a protractor. In Science, we have started to look at life cycles and on Thursday we had a recap of the parts of a flower.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We loved the residential at Burwardsley and we have really enjoyed the geography work that went with it.
  • We are enjoying the book, ‘The Lost Book of Adventure’. In our English topic.

Family discussion questions:

  • Can the children tell you anything they’ve learned about the surviving in the wilderness from The Lost Book of Adventure?
  • Can the children explain the role of the different parts of a flower?

Looking forward:

Next week, we will be continuing our work on shape, problem solving with missing angles. The children are working towards writing their own story, set in a survival situation in the jungle. In science, we will be studying pollination and fertilisation. In Geography, we will move on to a new topic about South America.

Have a lovely weekend!
