Friday 25th September 2026 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back: 

It’s been a hard-working week in Year 5! We’ve really cracked on with our WWII topic and the children have learned all about how people stayed safe during the Blitz air-raids. In English, the children have been enjoying the book, ‘FArTHER’. They are working towards planning their own story based on this great story. In science, we conducted an interesting investigation into friction, pulling shoes along different surfaces to see the difference in force required!

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • It’s been interesting learning about Hinduism in our RE lessons.
  • We’re enjoying doing batik artwork with Mrs Riddell.
  • We’re excited to get our Wider Opps instruments.

Family discussion questions:

  • Can the children describe the different air-raid shelters used during WWII?
  • Ask the children about the results of their friction investigation.

Looking forward:

Next week, we will be continuing with our WWII topic and starting to think about the exhibition.

The children will be planning and writing their own story in our English lesson.

We will be concluding our first maths unit of the year on place value and move on to strategies for addition and subtraction.
