Y5 Weekly Update 26.6.26
Friday 26th June 2026 – Y5 Weekly Update
Looking back:
It’s been great to welcome the South African children to our school. We have loved meeting them and they bring such a positive vibe everywhere they go! We held a welcome assembly earlier today which was lovely.
We have been cracking on with our English topic based on King Kong – the children have loved this book. In maths, we moved on to a little unit of work on position and direction and we’ve been learning about translation. In our RE topic, we've been learning about pilgrimage. In science, we learned about the development stages of a baby.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We loved meeting the South African children!
- It was really interesting learning about life stages and what we can do in our lives at each stage.
Family discussion questions:
- Ask the children to tell you what they remember a baby's development.
- Can the children tell you the golden rule for translating on a grid?
Looking forward:
Next week, the children will have a number of opportunities to work with the South African children – learning dances and doing some artwork. We’ve got the fire service in class on Monday, talking to the children about road safety.
Don’t forget our little Wider Opps performance on Wednesday, starting at 1.40pm in the hall. The children will play a couple of pieces of music they’ve learned across the year and we anticipate the mini-concert taking about 15minutes.
Have a lovely weekend!
