Y5 Weekly Update 28.11.25

Friday 28th November 2025 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

It’s been a great week in Year 5. Christmas service rehearsals are well underway, which always gives the school a little buzz of excitement. The children have been doing brilliantly with fractions work – I’ve been so impressed with their attitude. Some of the work has been particularly tricky, but there has been lots of determination and perseverance on display. In English, the children have written a fantastic story based on a Moon landing. In Geography, we explored the impact of flooding on communities and learnt a little about rivers near our twin school in South Africa.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We enjoyed learning about Galileo and Copernicus.
  • We found it interesting learning about flooding.

Family discussion questions:

  • Can the children tell you what Galileo discovered?
  • Can the children talk you through adding and subtracting fractions?

Looking forward:

In maths next week, we move on to a unit of work on multiplication and division strategies. In English, we are undertaking a short unit learning how to write more formal reports. In Geography, we will be researching some well known rivers around the world. In science, we are learning about the scientist, Maggie Aderin-Pocock, who is an inspirational black scientist who has battled dyslexia.

Have a great weekend!
