Y5 Weekly Update 30.1.25

Friday 30th January 2026 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

Thank you to those who were able to make it to the Burwardsley meeting – if anyone has any questions or queries, please feel free to email me.

It’s been a great week in Year 5. In Maths, we have been learning about thousandths in our decimals unit of work – the children continue to work so hard on their maths skills. In History, we have learned about Rationing and in Science, we set up an investigation exploring rusting as an irreversible change. We have undertaken some really useful e-safety lessons recently, looking at online identities.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We have enjoyed our bridges topic with Mrs Riddell.
  • It was interesting learning about Rationing, which took place during WWII.

Family discussion questions:

  • Ask the children why Rationing happened during WWII.
  • Can the children remember why rusting happens?

Looking forward:

Next week, we are ordering decimals in Maths, before moving on to look at percentages. In English, we are looking at the language features of reports. In Science, we are investigating separating materials. In History, we look at the issue of propaganda during WWII and how it was used.

Have a great weekend!
