Y5 Weekly Update 3.7.26

Friday 3rd July 2026 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

Thanks to lots of you who were able to come to our little Wider Opps performance on Wednesday. It was lovely for the children to be able to showcase some of the music they had learned together over the year.

It’s been a great week in Year 5. It’s been lovely to spend time with the South African children – on Monday they spent some time in our classroom telling us all about their school in South Africa. On Thursday, we did a little art activity together. The children have also done some great work on our local history topic – we looked at the Census data over time for the village and other sources of evidence to see what we could learn about the village. The children also learned about the history of the school. In Maths, we’ve been exploring reflection, before moving on to converting measures. On Monday, we also had the Fire Service in class, talking to the children about road safety.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We loved spending time with the South African children!
  • It was really interesting learning about Goostrey’s history, but particularly what the school used to be like.

Family discussion questions:

  • Ask the children to tell you what they remember about the school’s history.
  • Can the children tell you some of the things they learned about road safety.

Looking forward:

Next week, we’ll say a sad goodbye to the South African children on Wednesday. Also on Wednesday, it is the children’s last Wider Opps session, where they will be showing the Year 4s the different instruments, ready for them next year.

In our local history topic, we’ll be looking at wartime in Goostrey during WWII and learning about listed buildings. In maths, we’ll continue to practise converting between different measures. In English, the children will be writing an exciting story based on King Kong.

Have a lovely weekend!
