Y5 Weekly Update 5.9.25

Friday 5th September 2025 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

It’s been a lovely first week back. The children returned with a smiles, enthusiasm and within a few hours, it was like we had never been away! We have started a new writing topic based on the wonderful book, FArTHER, by Grahame Baker-Smith. The children have been immersing themselves in the lovely illustrations. In maths, as always, we have begun the year with some work on place value. We’ve got some great topics to study this term, including Ancient Greece, Rivers and Hinduism, not to mention some great exhibition work to get stuck into.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We enjoyed being back with our friends.
  • We liked our first session of Wider Opportunities.
  • We are enjoying FArTHER.

Family discussion questions:

  • Can the children tell you the themes of FArTHER so far?
  • Can the children explain the meaning behind ‘How to Heal a Broken Wing’ which we looked at in our PSHE session.

Looking forward:

Next week, we will be beginning our Ancient Greece topic in earnest – looking at how the Ancient Greek civilisation began.

We will be having a little recap about the origins of Hinduism and some key facts about the religion.

In maths, we will be practising reading and writing larger numbers.

I hope you have a great weekend!
