Y5 Weekly Update 8.5.26

Friday 8th May 2026 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

It’s been a hard-working week in Year 5. The children have written fantastic adventure stories based on the incredible book, The Lost Book of Adventure. In maths, we have been working hard on decimals. In science, we learned about vegetative reproduction and how to grow potatoes. In geography, we learned all about biomes in South America. The children also made rationing cakes with Mrs Riddel - with interestiing, but tasty results!

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We loved writing our own survival stories.
  • It has been interesting learning about how different plants reproduce.
  • We've enjoyed the rationing cake topic.

Family discussion questions:

  • Ask the children what the remember about biomes in South America.
  • Ask the children how we can grow potatoes.

Looking forward:

Next week, we are moving on in our English work to some non-fiction writing – the children will be exploring skills to write their own survival guides. In maths, we have another week of work practising strategies with decimals. In geography, the children will be researching information about the Amazon rainforest. In RE, we will continue to look at pilgrimage in different religions.

Have a lovely weekend!
