Y5 Weekly Update 8.9.23

Friday 8th September 2023 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

What a fantastic first week back it has been. It was lovely to welcome the children on Wednesday and see them so enthusiastic and full of smiles. The children have settled really well and we’ve cracked straight on with some English work, based on the book ‘Where Once We Stood’, and some place value maths work. We started our space science topic with a lesson on the Moon, and in Geography we made a start on our rivers topic – it’s been a productive week!

It was lovely to see many of you for our start of year meeting on Wednesday. I completely understand if you weren’t able to attend – if you look at our class page there is information to look through which will give you lots of the information mentioned.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We enjoyed being back with our friends.
  • We liked our first Wider Opps session.
  • We really enjoyed learning about the Moon landings.

Family discussion questions:

  • Ask the children what they learned about the Moon.
  • What did the children learn about the timeline of space travel?

Looking forward:

Next week, we will be continuing our English topic based on the fantastic book, ‘Where Once We Stood’. This book gives an exciting minute-by-minute break down of the Moon landings. In maths, we will continue to look at place value and comparing numbers.

In the afternoons, we will be really focusing on our rivers topic. This will inspire our exhibition work in October.

Enjoy the weekend!
