Y5 Weekly Update 9.1.26
Friday 9th January 2026 – Y5 Weekly Update
Looking back:
We’ve had a great week back and it was lovely to see the children returning to school on Monday full of (snowy) enthusiasm.
We’ve started a number of new topics this week. In our English work, we started a unit of writing based on a graphic novel version of The Hound of the Baskervilles. In History, we have begun our WWII topic and in RE, we started a unit of work looking at the religion of Islam.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We enjoyed learning about Sherlock Holmes.
- We enjoyed playing netball in PE.
Family discussion questions:
- Ask the children about their properties of materials work. Pick an object and ask them why it was made with the materials chosen and how the properties of that material do the job!
- Ask the children what we know about the Hound of the Baskervilles so far.
Looking forward:
Next week, we will continue our maths work on fractions, looking at a fraction of an amount.
We will start our first investigations in science, thermal insulation. In English, we will carry on building our writing skills towards writing our own story based on the Hound of the Baskervilles. In History, we'll be researching which countries were occupied during WWII.
Have a great weekend!
