Y6 - Looking Back and Forth - Friday 22nd November 2019

Y6 - Friday  22nd November 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6

Looking back:

Over the last few days, the pupils have been working hard on completing their writing based around “The Highwayman” for our English lessons.  Division with different ways to show remainders has been strengthened during maths and for our topic, they have continued with biomes and climate zones.  During computing, they have linked their science together and have been creating line graphs to represent heart rates.  Our class has also started to look at Islam within RE and we rehearsed for our Carol Concert on Thursday.  Things are always busy – every week.

It was good to see many of the pupils bring in their “Revision Folders”.  We have started to issue our revision posters for grammar and maths this week.  The pupils have been advised to bring these into school on Fridays, so that the posters can be filed away and kept neat and tidy.  We would also encourage the pupils to have their homework diaries in school most days, but Fridays in particular.  If the diaries are signed by a parent, then there are house points to be awarded.

The revision posters will be uploaded onto the two tabs on the website – one for all things grammar related (including punctuation) and one for maths.  I will add the date that the posters are uploaded, so that families can see which are the latest ones available.

Letters issued Y6:

Year 6 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • Publishing my writing
  • Playing with my friends
  • Working on the computers
  • Seeing my buddy – they looked grown up in their own clothes
  • Practising for Christmas

Family discussion questions:

  • Grammar Focus: What does a “perfect verb” have to have?

(Clue: There are two elements to the answer, Year 6!

  • Tell me about why pilgrimages are made.
  • What did you learn about heart rates?
  • Which was your favourite Premier Sports activity for indoor athletics?

Looking forward:

  1. There are new texts to begin for English next week – wait and see.  We will be continuing with division and multiplication for maths.  Our topic work will continue from those mentioned above.  On Wednesday, we are welcoming the Head Boy and Girl from Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School to chat to our class.  They will be chatting about what life is like at HCCS and will be able to answer any questions that Y6 might have.  If they would like to start thinking about this, or writing any questions down, that would be great.  Just don’t forget to bring these into school.
