Year 2 Looking Back and Forth Friday 17th May

Friday 17th May 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 2

Looking back:

This week the children have been very busy showing me what they know about the year 2 curriculum. They have been fantastic, worked very hard and clearly loved proving they understand their work. Well done Year 2! We have now finished the booklets. We will continue to work on our knowledge for the rest of the summer term, especially writing so please keep up the good work.

We have also continued learning about Judaism. In science we are looking at animals so we made the most of the warm weather to investigate our field. We found lots of different animals and insects and the children compared these findings to the results of our winter habitat investigation.

Maypole practices are going well so far. It’s lots of fun although there is a lot to remember. The children have to learn the steps, skip in time, work as a team and remember their left and right hands! Please remember water bottles and sunscreen at this time of year as we will practise several times a week.

Year 2 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • “Showing off what I can do in maths”
  • “I like being with my teacher because she helps us and is always kind”
  • Starting to look at our new book in English.
  • Our new topic – Castles and Dragons
  • Lunchtimes on the school field. The children get to spend time with the older children.

Family discussion questions:

  • What is a bee-bot and what does it do?

Looking forward:

  • Maypole Dancing
  • Writing descriptions of a story setting
  • Guided reading – hopefully lots of house-points to add on
  • School Trip to Quinta Forrest on Thursday 23rd May. A letter was sent home on Friday (17th). Children need a packed lunch unless ordered from school on the original letter. They must wear long trousers, and long sleeved tops even if the weather is sunny because we will be in a shady wood all day.  Please also send a raincoat. One of the activities is pond dipping so wellies are essential. Thank you!

Homework in Year 2

There is no maths or spelling homework this week, apart from learning times tables as usual.
