Year 3 Looking Back and Forth 13/2/26

Friday 13th February 2026 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 3

Looking back:

The challenge this week has been to complete our approaching threat narrative relating to the Iron Man story which we have absolutely loved! The children have tried very hard to develop their writing using so many of the skills we have learnt so far which is great. We have practised our short multiplication and place value chart division too which have been quite tricky but we’re getting there. In Geography, we recapped on everything we knew about the UK before using our knowledge and geographical vocabulary to locate the UK. In history, we did a fantastic job, finding out more about the life of George Stephenson and wrote excellent fact files leading to his inventions. We tested reflections and investigated highly visible fabrics and products in Science as part of our Light, Dark and Shadows topic and did wonderful work on spreadsheets and finding out about the validity of webpages in computing. Finally, we had quite the end to our half term by dancing our routines to The Circle of Life with the Year 4 Team, winning the PE trophy AGAIN and finished the week with our well-earned marble jar treat! Well done Year 3!!!

Year 3 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • Writing our own threat narrative
  • Maths workshop sessions
  • PE – dancing again – we love it!
  • Marble Jar Treat!
  • Computing with Mrs Cooper
  • Times table challenges – always a favourite.
  • Everything!

Family discussion questions:

Ask your children…

  • Can you describe the division method we use for bigger numbers?
  • What does highly visible fabric need to work?
  • Challenge: Who is George Stephenson and why is he so important to British development?

Looking forward:

We will be introduced to another new book in English the first week back after half term break which is always exciting. In maths, we will be starting our work based on measurement – length and perimeter, in History, we will be looking into four female, Great British inventors, in Geography, we will continue with our work on the UK, looking at features both human and physical, in RE we will find out about the Night of Power, in PSHE, we will be working on difference in friendships, in PE, rounders will begin, in Science, working on Light and Shadows and in Music, composing a piece about the process of inventing. So much to look forward to.

Just a quick reminder that PE is on Friday again for Spring Term 2!

Have a wonderful Half Term Break and see you all soon.
