Year 3 Looking Back and Forth 1/5/26
Friday 1st May 2026 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 3
Looking back: Thank you to you all for attending Parents' Evening and it was lovely to catch up once again.
We have had a lovely week together this week where we have enjoyed our first maypole practises, learning to skip and count at the same time! We have been comparing and ordering fractions in maths and using rhymes to help us recall facts. English has been in preparation for and working hard on our writing of our fable narrative, in Geography, we have begun to think about vocabulary relating to our new topic of volcanoes and earthquakes, discovered the layers of the Earth and researched where the majority of the World’s volcanoes are located, in History, we researched the founding of Rome and have begun to discover what life for the Celts was like in Britain before the Roman invasion, RE saw us all discussing forgiveness and what we thought about the actions of the father in the story of The Prodigal Son and in PE, we enjoyed another cricket session where we also earned 8 marbles. Finally, in Science this week, we experimented with coloured liquid and how plants are fed, read scene 2 of The Working Children – meeting Scragscutt, painted our background in Art in the style of Impressionists and enjoyed the sunshine, playing on our field. So much going on as always.
A brilliant week yet again.
Year 3 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- Playing on the field in the lovely sunshine
- Starting our Maypole skipping!
- Learning how to compare fractions with rhymes
- Acting out more of our play
- Many of us doing so well with our times tables
- Everything!
Family discussion questions:
Ask your children…
- What kind of character is Scragscutt?
- What were the two pieces of evidence regarding the founding of Rome?
- What are the layers of the Earth called?
Looking forward:
Our four day week next week will be packed with great learning opportunities like continuing to practise the maypole dance, continuing to write our own fable narrative in English, looking at how art can convey forgiveness and the importance of The Lord’s Prayer to Christians, continuing with our cricket sessions in PE, looking at scene 3 of our playscript in reading, all about working children in Victorian times, finding out about types of volcanoes in Geography, completing our work on why the Romans wanted to invade Britain and what it had to offer in History and continuing with fractions in maths!
Enjoy the Bank Holiday Weekend - come rain or shine!
