Year 3 Looking Back and Forth 16.1.26
Friday 16th January 2026 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 3
Looking back:
What an excellent finish to our week in school today, winning the trophy for PE for the first time this school year! We are all extremely proud and won 15 marbles as a result – brilliant Year 3 – well done!!!
English has been interesting as we have really enjoyed our work based on The Iron Man and we LOVE it!! We have recapped on our learning in maths and have completed our revision work on the first part of multiplication and division. We had a particularly successful times table challenge day too which is great news – keep practising and jumping onto TT Rockstars whenever you can Year 3! In computing, we worked on our first session of graphing which was great fun. In History we have opened our investigation into Great British Inventors and significant people who have changed the shape of our lives, in Geography, we completed our Africa topic working on the BIG 5 and in Science we began to look at magnets and forces again which was great. We loved our music lesson this week where we investigated musical sounds to represent things like phone ring tones, ready to compose our own next session – great fun – and in art, we began to look at and appreciate our new artist Claude Monet – the first of our Impressionist artists we will be researching.
Year 3 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- Creating sentences in English using our 5-step plan to high-quality sentences
- Working on graphs on the laptops
- Our ringtone music lesson!
- Learning about inventors in History
- Performing poetry in English
- Times table tests
- Everything!
Family discussion questions:
Ask your children…
- What are the four things we are focusing on in Year 3 right now?
- Can you remember any of the new inventors we researched in History?
- What are the 5 steps to a successful, high-quality sentence?
Looking forward:
Next week, we will be continuing with our multiplication and division work in maths, by looking at the formal, short multiplication method. In English, we will be working on improving and experimenting with sentence structure, learning our spellings and writing a Kenning Poem and in History, we will be creating our own inventor’s timeline independently. In Geography, we will be starting our new topic of The UK and in PE, we will be continuing with gymnastics skills. In computing, we will be working on our second session on creating graphs. Reading will continue, as will times tables challenges and spellings.
Lots to look forward to!
Take care everyone, keep warm and have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Sant
