Year 3 Looking Back and Forth 18/9/26

Friday 18th September 2026 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 3

Just a quick reminder to all children to remember to bring a waterproof coat into school each day please.

Congratulations to those who represented our school and Year 3 at this week’s football tournament!! We’re very proud of your brilliant behaviour and great sportsmanship.

Looking back:

Week three, and we’re getting into the swing of things now and beginning to reach out for those junior expectations which is good to see. We have been working hard on manners and following short instructions this week and respecting others in school. In maths, we have worked on number lines to 100 and 1000 and focused on really understanding hundreds, tens and ones, English has been based upon Egyptology and a new piece all about an Egyptian Mystery – lots of advanced vocabulary to get our teeth stuck into. We started our History topic this week too, being introduced to some very difficult vocabulary and trying to remember what we had learnt in Years 1 and 2. PE was great again as we are really loving our La Crosse sessions. We had an amazing morning session, working with the Rev. Christine Broad, finding out about how being a Christian has shaped her life and the questions from the children were just brilliant! Thank you very much Reverend for joining us. We all had the pleasure of choosing our first reading books from the Junior Library too this week and so happy reading everyone! We had a lovely session with the ‘Owl Man’ as the children called him and we would like to thank Mr Daniells from Lower Moss Wood for giving up his time to talk to us about the work they do and of course the wonderful birds themselves. So much going on as always but the stand out moment of our week has been our class trip to Chester Zoo! What an experience it was. The children and the animals behaved brilliantly and I was proud to be their teacher once again. We learnt so much and to compliment our Africa topic by seeing ‘The Heart of Africa’ zone was fantastic.

  • CHESTER ZOO!!! HURRAY FOR OUR BRILLIANT DAY!!!

Looking forward:

Firstly, we have our first Forest School session on Monday morning and so our children will need to wear clothing in which they will be comfortable to work outside. Wellies will help and items which may take on a little mud etc. please for that day.

Our arithmetic sessions will continue next week, alongside learning our all-important times tables. We will be working on our History this coming week to create our own formal, chronological timeline of important events from African History. Geography will be looking at human and physical features of Africa and learning how to sort and present findings. We will be working hard on our reading and spelling too in our daily sessions and will be writing our Egyptian Mysteries in English – how exciting! We will be completing our place value work in maths and finding out what we already know about addition and subtraction. Finally, we will be starting our D & T projects based on our book ‘Sailing Down The Nile’.
