Year 3 Looking Back and Forth 20/3/26
Friday 20th March 2026 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 3
Looking back:
I’m thrilled to report that our scene setting long writes are going very well so far and they have seen us all searching for and trying to take our work to the next level. We have worked on sentence accuracy and handwriting as usual and our reading lesson this week was all about ‘Frock and Roll’ which we loved. Maths has been all about completing our work on measurement and trying to crack all of our arithmetic methods. Our homework for this week in maths is a revision-based set of questions to help us prepare for our review of our learning next week. Our rounders skills are improving in PE as we played our first matches today ON THE FIELD! We also earned 18 marbles for our wonderful listening, following instructions and sportsmanship! In Geography, we spent time learning about the counties and regions of the UK using an atlas for the first time and History saw us learn about six inventors from around the world, building on from our Africa topic last term too. This morning, the majority of us did great in our spellings and times tables challenges and this afternoon, we composed our own inventors related musical piece. We finished our week off once again, by welcoming our fourth ‘mystery reader’ - we love this time every week!
Year 3 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- Writing about the images from Rhythm of the Rain
- My favourite topic of PE and winning the trophy again for the 4th time!!
- Playing on the field for the first time this year!!!
- Our own piece of work on the computers trying out spreadsheets
- Friday’s Fish n Chips lunch!
- Everything!
Family discussion questions:
Ask your children…
- Why was Elijah McCoy such a brilliant inventor?
- What are our actions in Geography to help us remember what counties and regions are?
- What books did our ‘Mystery Reader’ share this week?
Looking forward:
This coming week will be filled with completing our writing about Rhythm of the Rain, we will be completing any outstanding work across many other subjects, working through reading quizzes, filming our music, working on our art, working on showing how well we’re doing so far and welcoming our final mystery reader.
Just a quick reminder that our Easter Hamper raffle tickets are still on sale until Wednesday afternoon so roll up, roll up…get ‘ya’ tickets here!’ The draw will be on Thursday morning - how exciting!!!
Finally, can I please remind you that our sign-up forms are on line for you to complete for this year’s Rose Day event in June. Year 3 will be taking part in a whole class performance too on that day and we will be starting practising for this after the Easter Break.
