Year 3 Looking back and forth 23/1/26

Friday 23rd January 2026 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 3

Looking back:

Another great finish again this week as we earned 10 marbles for a brilliant PE session - we're doing so well in gymnastics right now - brilliant Year 3 – well done!!!

English has gone really well again this week too as we have experimented with the use of conjunctions and reorganising sentences using The Iron Man to help us. In maths, we have worked hard on getting to grips with multiplication and applying the knowledge we have to problem solving. We have also begun our work on short multiplication. History saw us putting our inventors in chronological order independently and we did this very well indeed and we started to create our timeline. In geography, we completed our big 5 computer work and in RE, we began our work on the Muslim religion. We very much enjoyed our artwork too this week, drawing our landscapes of the UK, in the style of Monet, Matisse and Cezanne. Finally, we had our weekly spelling and times table tests!

Year 3 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • Working on graphs on the laptops again
  • Drawing our landscapes
  • Working a team to create a physical timeline
  • Gymnastics lesson
  • Times table tests
  • Everything!

Family discussion questions:

Ask your children…

  • Which artists are we looking at now?
  • What are the horizontal and vertical lines called on a graph?
  • Who wrote the Iron Man?

Looking forward:

Next week, we will be continuing with our multiplication and division work in maths, by looking at the formal, short multiplication method. In English, we will be working on our planning and beginning our writing of our own threat narrative, alongside our spellings and handwriting of course. In History, we will be completing our own inventor’s timeline independently and in Geography, we will be continuing to look at the UK.  In PE, we will be working on gymnastics skills again and computing, we will be working on spreadsheets for the first time. Reading will continue, as will times tables challenges.

Lots to look forward to!

Take care everyone, keep warm and have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Sant
