Year 3 Looking Back and Forth 27/2/26

Friday 27th February 2026 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 3

Looking back:

What a great week back after our Half Term break. The children seem well rested and ready to go. We have made a great start to our new English topic and we love our new book already. The Rhythm Of The Rain is a hit! We have begun our work on measuring this week, converting metres, centimetres and millimetres in maths and with lots more practise as we move forward we should crack it! In history, we have researched and written all about the fantastic and innovative inventions of four Great British Female inventors and in Geography, we have worked hard to define physical and human features of the four countries of the UK. In PE, we began our work on rounders and earned 8 marbles in the process!! Art was enjoyable again as we continue to paint our UK landscapes and we finished our week off with our first wonderful mystery reader!

Year 3 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • Our mystery reader!
  • Being INCREDIBLE in PE this week – rounders skills
  • Stepping inside our new book in English – The Rhythm of the Rain
  • Lots of progress on our times table tests – hurray!!
  • Our new History research
  • Art
  • Friday’s Fish n Chips lunch!
  • Everything!

Family discussion questions:

Ask your children…

  • How many centimetres in a metre? How many millimetres in a centimetre? What are the main points to remember when measuring?
  • What happened to the jar of water?
  • Challenge: Who were the inventors we found out about this week and what did they invent?

Looking forward:

Another jam-packed week is before us as we investigate new vocabulary and a new story in English, continue with measuring in maths, begin our writing about Emily Jayne Cummins in History, begin our work on cities in Geography, continue to learn new skills in rounders, find out how to solve problems positively in PSHE, discover more about light, dark and shadows in Science, compose music and finally, continue with our painting in art!

Thank you very much indeed to those of you who very kindly donationed for our Class Three Easter Hamper – very much appreciated - raffle tickets go on sale from Monday 16th March!!!

Thank you also to our very first mystery reader – we loved sharing your stories.
