Year 4 22nd November - Looking Back and Forth

Friday 22nd November 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back:

This week the children worked hard on redrafting and publishing their Leaf writing – Outsider Narratives.  The front covers will be displayed in the gallery link below.  We worked hard on the x7x9x25 timestables, as well as rounding to the nearest 1,000.

In science we had a rather yummy lesson, which involved observing the melting point of chocolate.  A lesson that has to be one of my personal favourites!

The children swam their socks off on Tuesday, we swam lengths again, this is really improving the children’s stamina.  We also completed our dioramas which are now on a link below in the gallery if you would like to take a look.

Questions to ask at home:

  • What is an outsider narrative?
  • What is the melting point of ice?
  • What is the freezing point of water?
  • Can you tell me how matters can change state?  (solid to a liquid)
  • How do you round to the nearest 1000?

Highlights of the week:

  • Swimming lengths
  • Writing the final part of Leaf
  • The fencing man, who came to do a demonstration
  • Chocolate Science!
  • Finishing my mountain diorama
  • Publishing my Leaf
  • Working on freezing and melting points in science.

Looking forward:

This week we will begin a new unit of work on instructions and explanations.

We will be finishing our work on Place Value and moving onto Addition and Subtraction.  In science we will continue to look at changing states.  In topic work we will look at different source evidence and make our own decisions about if Mallory made it to the top of Everest and could be called ‘successful’?

This week we will continue to practise the carols and songs for the Christmas Carol Service.  The dates for all the important events coming up are on the newsletter front page.
