Year 4 Looking Back and Forth - Friday 25th April 2025

Friday 25th April – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back:

It is scary to think that we are in our last term together.  The class have come back after the Easter holiday really well.  They have earned all of their marbles and will be having a well-earned marble jar treat next week.  In class this week, the children have begun a new book in English.  We are still working on what the story is about?  The class ruminated and came up with some very good predictions.  More will be revealed next week.  In maths, we finished working on perimeter, and looked at regular and irregular polygons (disappearing parrots – only a few got my joke – I think it is a sign of my age!!!)

Questions to ask at home  -

  • What is perimeter?
  • What is a closed shape?
  • How many sides does a pentagon, hexagon, heptagon, octagon and nonagon have?
  • What is a regular polygon? (disappearing parrot!)
  • What is an irregular polygon?
  • What do you know about the new book in English?
  • What is the difference between an apostrophe and an inverted comma?

Children’s highlights of the week

  • TTRockstars
  • Designing money holders
  • The bug hunt and making graphs
  • Science
  • PE – Cricket!

Looking forward:

Next week, the children will be exploring amazing facts about bees, with our resident beekeeping expert (Mrs Beardsworth is a fully qualified Beekeeper!).

In geography, the children will be exploring the countries of Europe.  In R.E. the class will explore Christian Aid.  In our No Outsiders work, the children will be looking at the story – Red, A Crayon’s Story.

Homework in Year

Summer GAPS sheet 1 and speech

Maths – Unit 13 blue sheet

Reading – daily at least 15 mins – remember to take the Accelerated Reader Quizzes

TTRockstars – as much as possible 10 mins daily is ideal – at least once a week for 20 mins

Spellings  – Mrs Riddell – Please learn them for the test on Wednesday.  It is better to look at them for 5 minutes each day than try to learn them all in one night.  The children remember them better learnt over the week.

Could the children please complete their homework in pencil or blue/black pen not felt tip.
