Year 4 Looking Back and Forth - Friday 5th September 2025

🔙 Looking Back – This Week in Year 4

What a wonderful start to the year! The children in Year 4 have settled brilliantly into routines and are already working hard.

📖 English – We explored The Sea-Thing Child by Russell Hoban. The children empathised with the main character and reflected on the people, places, and objects in their own lives that bring them comfort and happiness.

Maths – We began working on Place Value.

🏆 Highlights of the Week (from the children):

  • Creating my Sea-Thing kenning
  • Place value in maths
  • Shell drawing and painting
  • Learning about Vikings in history
  • Playing with my friends
  • Creating my own stone igloo
  • Reading The Sea-Thing Child

❓ Questions to Ask at Home

  • What is the Sea-Thing child?
  • What did he do to soothe and comfort himself?
  • What is a kenning?
  • What is a determiner?
  • What does “perfectly round are seldom found, but egg-shaped are abounding” mean?
  • Who does the Sea-Thing child meet?
  • Do you think he will return to the deep or not?
  • How do you think you play ‘Stones’?
