Year 5 10.5.19 Looking Back and Forth

Friday 10th May 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5

Looking back:

The children have worked so hard this week. They wrote a version of ‘Theseus and the Minotaur’ in their own style and the standard of writing was fantastic. We really enjoyed sharing the stories and I had a great time reading and marking them.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We enjoyed the Greek myth writing this week.
  • We found the balancing number maths challenging.
  • We enjoyed the ‘Pollination Rock’ song in science.

Family discussion questions:

Ask your children…

  • To tell you about the process of pollination.
  • To tell you all about their Minotaur myth.
  • About the music they are learning for ‘Come and Play at the Halle’.

Looking forward:

Next week, the children will be writing their own Greek myth, creating a plot that contains a hero and a mystical creature. We move on to fractions in maths; adding, subtracting and multiplying. In art, we continue to look at the artist Georgia O’Keeffe, who painting fantastic close up pictures of flowers.

There will be an informal Year 5 class assembly on Thursday 23rd May at 9.30am, where the children will present some of the work they have done so far this year. Look out for text messages and a letter with further details.

The Love Music Trust is delighted to once again be working in partnership with Hallé Education to give the young musicians of Cheshire East the opportunity to 'Come and Play with the Hallé'! This year's concert features a wide range of music from the classical and modern orchestral repertoire.

The children will be taking part in the annual ‘Come and Play with the Hallé’ concert at the Bridgewater Hall on Thursday 20th June starting at 1.30pm. I will be sending out a letter/consent form giving further details next week.

The concert will feature more than 1,200 children from across Cheshire East, performing with the Hallé as part of their Wider Opportunities programme.

Parents are welcome to join us at the concert. To purchase tickets (priced at £8) and hear your child performing alongside one of the world’s leading orchestras in one of the finest concert halls in the UK, please visit the link below.
