Year 5 14.6.19 Looking Back and Forth

Friday 14th June 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5

Looking back:

The children have had a great week. They’ve done a few end-of-year assessments and have shown just how well they have progressed this year. Many of the children are now looking forward to June Evening, putting their stalls together and raising some money for the school!

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We enjoyed touching up our photos of flowers on the laptops.
  • We are enjoying listening to the homework presentations.
  • We liked learning about ancient Greek warfare and the life of a hoplite.
  • We enjoyed learning about ambiguity in our English lesson.

Family discussion questions:

Ask your children…

  • To explain what ‘ambiguity’ means.
  • To tell you about complete and incomplete metamorphosis in insects/amphibians.
  • To tell you what a hoplite wore in battle.

Looking forward:

Next week, the children have their exciting trip to the Bridgewater Hall for the ‘Come and Play at the Halle’ concert. On the day, children will need a packed lunch/drink and their instrument, labelled with name and school. The concert starts at 1.30pm and usually lasts around 70 minutes. If the children are going to be late back, Mrs Williams will send a text out. In literacy, the children are starting a new topic based on an interesting story from the Caribbean.

The Love Music Trust is delighted to once again be working in partnership with Hallé Education to give the young musicians of Cheshire East the opportunity to 'Come and Play with the Hallé'! This year's concert features a wide range of music from the classical and modern orchestral repertoire.

The children will be taking part in the annual ‘Come and Play with the Hallé’ concert at the Bridgewater Hall on Thursday 20th June starting at 1.30pm. I will be sending out a letter/consent form giving further details next week.

The concert will feature more than 1,200 children from across Cheshire East, performing with the Hallé as part of their Wider Opportunities programme.

Parents are welcome to join us at the concert. To purchase tickets (priced at £8) and hear your child performing alongside one of the world’s leading orchestras in one of the finest concert halls in the UK, please visit the link below.
