Year 5 3.5.19 Looking Back and Forth

Friday 3rd May 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5

Looking back:

The children have enjoyed a great week. They have enjoyed undertaking some work on different ancient Greek myths and produced some great writing. In Wider Opportunities they are busy learning music for the ‘Come and Play at the Halle’ concert in June. Please see below for more information about the concert and how to buy audience tickets.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We enjoyed writing our own version of The Trojan Horse.
  • We enjoyed practising our throwing skills in PE.
  • We liked researching information about modern day Greece.

Family discussion questions:

Ask your children…

  • What they learned about Greece.
  • To tell you all about the Trojan Horse myth.
  • About the music they are learning for ‘Come and Play at the Halle’.

Looking forward:

Next week we will be basing our writing on the exciting myth, ‘Theseus and the Minotaur'. Our maths work will be calculating number balances. In science, we will be learning all about pollination.

There will be an informal Year 5 class assembly on Thursday 23rd May at 9.30am, where the children will present some of the work they have done so far this year. Look out for text messages and a letter with further details.

Homework in Year 5:

Maths: Given Monday/Return following Monday.

English: Given Monday/Return following Monday.

Spellings: Given Friday/Tested following Friday.

Wider Opportunities:

Children to practise ‘Blue Danube’ for next week.

Remember to bring all music and instrument guides etc every week.

Spare copies of music are available in the classroom.

Come and Play at the Halle Concert:

Fly to the moon, be challenged to a duel in the stars and dance on the Planet Zog – our 2019 programme is celebrating 50 years since Man first landed on the Moon!

The Love Music Trust is delighted to once again be working in partnership with Hallé Education to give the young musicians of Cheshire East the opportunity to 'Come and Play with the Hallé'! This year's concert features a wide range of music from the classical and modern orchestral repertoire.

The children will be taking part in the annual ‘Come and Play with the Hallé’ concert at the Bridgewater Hall on Thursday 20th June starting at 1.30pm. I will be sending out a letter/consent form giving further details soon.

The concert will feature more than 1,200 children from across Cheshire East, performing with the Hallé as part of their Wider Opportunities programme.

Parents are welcome to join us at the concert. To purchase tickets (priced at £8) and hear your child performing alongside one of the world’s leading orchestras in one of the finest concert halls in the UK, please visit the link below from Wednesday 8th May.
