Year 5 Weekly Update 26.9.25

Friday 26th September 2025 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

It’s been a great week in Year 5. The children ended their first maths topic of the year on place value and seem to be growing in confidence in their numeracy skills. In History, we have learned about the life of children in Ancient Greece, and also the life of a hoplite during times of war. In Science, we set up an investigation ready to test the effects of air resistance. We have been reading and watching The Railway Children in class and we will undertake some interesting exhibition work based on this classic novel next week.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We are enjoying tag-rugby in PE.
  • We found the work on air resistance interesting.
  • We enjoyed learning about the life of a child in Ancient Athens.

Family discussion questions:

  • Can the children tell you a couple of facts about the life of a child in Ancient Greece?
  • Can the children tell you why balls of different sizes drop at different speeds?

Looking forward:

Next week, we’ll be continuing to explore addition and subtraction strategies.

We’ll be doing some research and artwork based on famous steam trains.

In History, we will be exploring an Ancient Greek architecture and Ancient Greek Gods and Goddesses.

I hope you have a great weekend!
