Year 6 - Looking Back and Forth - Friday 13th January 2023

Y6 – Friday 13th January 2023 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6

Looking back:

Our first full week has been a busy one and we’ve really enjoyed working with our pupils on a range of new topics.  We have begun to enjoy our new text for English – Neil Gaiman’s version of “Hansel and Gretel”; we’ve enjoyed working on the mathematical concept of Ratio; My Happy Mind continues to help us understand how our brain works; coding sessions were tricky – but fun; we’ve started to learn about the Oregon Trail; PE with Mr Biggs was really enjoyable; and we completed the week with a super session with our fab buddies.

Letters issued Y6:

No letters this week

Year 6 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • TF – Reading
  • MB – Our “Forest” writing to set scenes and create atmosphere
  • EB – Coding
  • BB – Our hat work
  • CW – Maths
  • FF – PE
  • JE – Geography about the US
  • AH - Buddies

Family discussion questions:

  • Who is the illustrator of Neil Gaiman’s “Hansel and Gretel”?
  • What do you know about “The Oregon Trail”
  • Which two milliners did you research for Mrs Riddell?
  • What specific language is used for ratio? What can you tell me about this concept?

Looking forward:

  • We are moving on with our ratio topic, extending this to shape and scale. We will be finishing our reading of the book “Hansel and Gretel” and continuing with our work about America, coding, PE, etc.
  • As a heads up – the children are outdoors for PE on Fridays – please ensure that they have a sweatshirt/coat to ensure they are warm. Gloves might also be a good idea.  Thank you
