Year 6 - Looking Back and Forth - Friday 16th January 2026
Y6 – Friday 16th January 2026 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6
Looking back:
We have been impressed with the work produced across Year 6 this week. They have begun to write their endurance narratives as their crew members on board Endurance. Some of their descriptions are outstanding – we might post some of these next Friday. In maths, we have considered Similar Shapes; Scale Factors; Scale Drawings; and Reasoning with Ratio. Our afternoons have seen us delve further into the world of hat design and milliners; we have considered the My Happy Mind project; designer dogs and inherited characteristics were a study in science; whilst we continued to learn about New York. A busy week all round.
Year 6 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- FH Writing our first paragraph for English
- SL Working on Ratio questions
- EJ Buddies
- IB PE
- GH The Year 4 Cake Sale
- JA Writing about out character’s jobs on Endurance
Family discussion questions:
- What have you written in your first paragraph for English – can you recall your favourite word, phrase, sentence?
- If a rectangle has sides of 8cm in length and 3cm in width, what is the perimeter of an enlarged rectangle following an enlargement by a scale factor of 4? If you give your answer to Mrs Timmins on Monday, you may choose either 20 marbles for the class, or 10 house points for yourself.
- What are “Designer Dogs”?
Looking forward:
- We will be continuing with our lessons as normal, next week, continuing our journey through The Weddell Sea; we’ll be looking at proportion in maths, before moving onto algebra, too.
- Friday – school disco for those who love a good bop!
